SIERRA

This one-of-a-kind series began on a trip to Mt. Whitney, where it was difficult not to notice the fallen pieces of pine wood on the ground. The bark beetle is causing widespread destruction to pine trees in the Sierra (and many other places in the West). As the beetles make their way between the bark and the flesh of the tree, they carve designs that look like crude etchings or circuit boards, creating something both beautiful and destructive.
